The week’s ex-dates, and one payment stream in its fourth decade ⏰ |
Four watchlist names cross ex-date between now and Friday, and a fifth goes ex the following Monday. |
|
|
This week’s watchlist ex-dates run from today through Friday, with four names crossing between now and the weekend and a fifth going ex the following Monday. It is worth spending a minute with the calendar before Tuesday’s open — not to trade around it, but to know what has already been decided and what has not. Every one of the checks below is already declared, and the amounts and payable dates are on file with the transfer agent. What is left is arithmetic and time. |
MMM went ex this morning at 78 cents, payable September 11. Prudential goes ex tomorrow at $1.40, payable September 10. NextEra goes ex Friday at 62 cents, payable September 15. Realty Income, the monthly outlier, goes ex next Monday at 27.1 cents, payable September 15 alongside NextEra. None of those figures are going to change between now and the deposit — a declared dividend runs on its own calendar, independent of what the broader market does over the next two weeks. That is the shape of an income portfolio that most of the year is quiet. |
The habit worth naming here is not the ex-date. It is the payable date. A portfolio that lives off dividend income runs on the payable calendar rather than the ex calendar, and the two are typically two to three weeks apart. What that gap gives a holder is a schedule that resembles a paycheck rather than a series of surprises — the amounts are known, the dates are known, and the cash will land whether or not tomorrow’s session goes green. It is the plainest argument for owning income names in the first place, and it works in the quiet weeks when nobody is writing about them. |

Here is the week itself, ex-dates and the fresh declaration both, straight from the filings. |

💵 INCOME WATCH |
Declared Realty Income declared its August monthly dividend on Aug 18 at 27.1 cents a share — the same amount as July and June, on the monthly schedule. |
Ex-dates ahead (Aug 24 – Aug 31) MMM · Mon Aug 24 · $0.78 · declared Aug 14 · payable Sep 11 PRU · Tue Aug 25 · $1.40 · declared Aug 11 · payable Sep 10 NEE · Fri Aug 28 · $0.6232 · declared Jul 30 · payable Sep 15 O · Mon Aug 31 · $0.271 · declared Aug 18 · payable Sep 15 |
Yield check SCHD is running at a forward yield near 3.0% on its recent close, while the 10-year Treasury sits in its mid-4% range. Roughly 150 basis points still separate the broad dividend ETF from a comparable-duration Treasury. |

|
One of the names in this readership deserves a paragraph of its own tonight, because its record runs longer than most of them. |
| |
🧾 THE STEADY · MO |
Altria (MO) has paid a quarterly dividend every quarter in the record on file back to 1990 — thirty-five years of quarterly payments without a miss. The most recent raises walked the payment from 86 cents in 2020 to 90, then 94, then 98, then $1.02, then $1.06 today — a small step each year, on the same schedule. The filed forward rate is $4.24 a share, which has been running near a 6% yield on the recent price. The 52-week range is $54.70 to $77.06. |
The wrinkle worth naming is the payout ratio, which the feed shows at 0.89 — most of what the company earns is going out as the dividend, and the debt load is meaningful. It is a core dividend-record holding on the streak alone, not a growth story. Worth knowing what you own. |

And the day’s calendar for tomorrow, before the sign-off. |
| |
📅 TOMORROW’S CALENDAR |
9:00 AM ET · Case-Shiller Home Price Index for June — watch whether the year-over-year cooling continues. |
10:00 AM ET · Conference Board Consumer Confidence for August — the household read ahead of Friday’s PCE print. |
Before the bell · PRU goes ex-dividend at $1.40 a share — the first of the week’s watchlist ex-dates after MMM this morning. |
|
|
|
|
The week’s calendar closes on Friday with core PCE and, later that day, the Fed Chair’s Jackson Hole keynote. Between now and then, the payments in the section above will all go on the schedule they were promised on. |
Which of this week’s ex-dates lands in a name you actually hold? Reply and tell me — I read every note. |
