Here's what to know: three widely held income names go ex-dividend in the next five trading days (the date by which you must already own shares to collect the upcoming payout). Paychex goes ex-dividend Tuesday, Constellation Brands Thursday, and Morgan Stanley, Alliant Energy, and AGNC Investment all on Friday. If you own any of them and plan to reinvest the payout, the ex-date is the day that matters, not the pay date. Miss it and the next check simply arrives one quarter later than you expected, nothing more dramatic than that. It's worth pausing on why the calendar matters more than the yield itself. A dividend is only as durable as the cash flow paying for it, and history has examples of what happens when that stops being true.
