| | There's a lot of speculation that the "Covid Trade" is over...
This, of course, is referring to the speculative biotech companies with vaccine candidates... work-from-home tech... social distancing and hygiene companies... and somehow, luxury goods...
I wouldn't be too quick to say this is the case.
There are companies gearing up for a supposed next wave, namely the Delta variant which has undoubtedly created problems already.
But from a market perspective, what does that mean for the participants?
"Mr. X" has been keeping track of the developments and offers some insight into what you should watch for...

- Vaccine Company Makes Vaccine - Early Tuesday morning, hedge fund favorite VBI Vaccines (VBIV) reported positive data for its initial Phase I trial for its VBI-2902a vaccine. The two-dose treatment is delivered via eVLP (enveloped virus-like particle) and geared towards treating healthy adults between the ages of 18 and 54. VBI Vaccines CEO Jeff Baxter stated that the company plans "to devlop multivalent eVLP candidates, designed to increase the breadth of protection against COVID-19." Don't jinx us, Jeff.
- FTC Loses - 'Twas a banner day for Mark Zuckerberg yesterday as Facebook (FB) reached over a $1 trillion market cap, making it the fifth company to do so in US history. But that wasn't the only thing that the Zuck rejoiced over; the recent antitrust lawsuits from numerous attorneys general and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) was dismissed. A district court judge threw out the case stating that "the complaint is legally insufficient." Here's the reaction:
| | | | - The "Apes" Talk Back - WallStreetBets' current favorite meme stock, AMC Entertainment (AMC) may not stay the favorite for too long. Despite the company boasting its record box office numbers for this past weekend's showing of Vin Diesel's latest film, F9, CEO Adam Aron is getting some heat from the apes via Twitter regarding the company's dilution. Many users tweeted Aron, telling him that if they're so successful, there should be no reason to dilute shareholders... At least until after the short squeeze.
- Tesla "Recall" - Whether or not the speculation that China has it out for Elon Musk and Tesla (TSLA) is true is becoming tough to argue. The electric vehicle maker was forced by Chinese regulators to recall 285,000 vehicles which is close to all the vehicles manufactured in Shanghai. However, the recall wasn't much of one as the vehicles only required an over-the-air software update to fix the cruise control due to reports of unintended acceleration. That's not a recall, China.

- World Bank Raises Economic Outlook On China - The good news: The World Bank has raised its estimate for economic growth in China to 8.5% from 8.1%. The bad news: this requires full vaccinations. There are a number of questions about the effectiveness of the vaccines made in China... and for that matter, how this all got started.
- Russia-China Pledge Not To Fire Nukes - I mean, I guess it's a start. Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping extended a 20 year old "friendship treaty," as they boasted of closer ties. President Putin also congratulated the Chinese Communist Party on its 100th anniversary and recalled Soviet support for Red China. Of course, that didn't end so well, after the Soviet-China split. There was a sign of that as both countries pledged... not to fire strategic missiles at each other. Ah international relations, where "I promise not to nuke you" constitutes friendship.
- Dutch/Hungarian Rift Over LGBT Rights - Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte told Hungarian leader Viktor Orban that he must respect LGBT rights or he should leave the European Union. The conflict between the increasingly isolated conservative leader in the EU is heating up, with even soccer becoming a political flashpoint. However, France and the Netherlands face their own populist challenges, with Marine Le Pen building a formidable campaign for the French presidential contest next year and Dutch nationalists trying to reunite after bitter squabbles within the movement.

- Two Vaccines Are Better Than One? - No, I don't mean two doses. Two different vaccines. A recent study shows that mixed doses of the AstraZeneca/University of Oxford COVID-19 vaccine and the Pfizer vaccine actually provide more protection than just two doses of the AZN vaccine. Concern is rising as the "Delta" variant of the disease spreads around the world, causing lockdowns in the Pacific. It's also hitting California hard.
- China Announces Manned Missions To Mars - They don't call it the Red Planet for nothing. China has announced it will send its first crewed mission to Mars in 2033. Of course, you would think they would conquer Luna before they start going after Mars. But the CCP is nothing if not ambitious. Better Mars than Taiwan I suppose.
- Feds Fight Pennsylvania For Gold - My favorite stories are the ones about modern law enforcement agencies fighting over feudal treasure rights. A stockpile of lost Union gold from the Civil War - reputed to have been stolen by the legendary pro-Confederate secret society the Knights of the Golden Circle - is supposedly in a cave in PA. The FBI reportedly deployed sophisticated equipment to search for the gold, allegedly robbing treasure hunters of their opportunity to search. The feds also didn't bother to inform state officials, and Pennsylvania could presumably have the last claim. Someone get Nicholas Cage on this story fast, the man needs a good movie.
| | | | | | Didn't think a high tech story would involve an ancient Confederate secret society, but here we are. National Treasure: Pandemic Edition | | | | FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION "America is in a far superior position compared to many other countries, but if the Delta variant catches on in more countries, the resulting slowdown in global economic growth will undoubtedly have an impact."
Don't look now, but the Delta variant of COVID-19 is forcing shutdowns around the world. While things are looking up in America, the rest of the world is having problems. And what happens around the world will eventually impact us. What's the future for companies making vaccines today? Mr. X explores what's at stake.
| | | | | | This is a short-term look on Tellurian (TELL) using the 20 day, 1 hour chart.
After gapping up for a major run, the stock is attempting to hold above $4 and so far, it's trending successfully.
You'll notice that between ~$3.85 to ~$4.25, we're looking at an area of congestion where most of the action is taking place, particularly at the higher end of that range known as the point of control....
It's still in a value area from a swing trading or short-term perspective.
Judging from the trend, I'd look for entry close to ~$4.30 with a target of ~$5.00.
However, considering the volatility, I'd pay close attention for a break below $4.00 as that would signal the end is likely near.
