Becoming An Expert Trader

Hey, I got an email the other day from one of my newsletter subscribers… He wrote….. "Hello Vic, I really enjoy the information that you provide in the emails, some of the tips are very eye opening,and if you wouldn't mind, I wanted to know how long would it take to become an expert trader?" Well...first of all…..Thanks for the kind words…. I always welcome questions and comments from my readers. And...I LOVE you all, by the way…. Now...back to the question…. It's obviously not an easy one to answer….but I thought we could try to tackle this from a different lens. As YOU likely already know, I am an AVID reader, and not just with regards to books related to the market, but general business, psychology, and self improvement books as well… Where am I going with this…..YOU ASK… Well….recently I read a great book by Malcolm Gladwell…. ….the book was entitled "Outliers"....an excellent read. In the book, the author, Malcolm Gladwell says that it takes roughly ten thousand hours of practice to achieve mastery in a field. Gladwell studied the lives of extremely successful people... And from his studies….he found that in a large majority of cases, those that become masters in their profession typically devoted approximately ten thousand hours of practice to that profession. Now that's an interesting concept….I thought to myself… And ME being ME….I wanted to know what 10,000 hours translated to in terms of months or years. Working in our target profession, forty hours per week over five years would give us ten thousand hours… So 5 years seems to be that MAGIC number, based on 10,000 hours… I never really thought of it this way….but when I started reflecting on this idea a bit...I thought to myself…. You know….that sounds about RIGHT to me... And it reminds of that famous saying... Ever heard the Saying….Practice Makes Perfect? and wondered to yourself….Well how much Practice? Well it seems we have a pretty good idea….10,000 hours or 5 years full time in your chosen profession. And so to the reader who asked this question….I hope this lesson may have shed some light on the possible answer….
