2 Sectors Have Been Gaining on Tech, but a New Horse Race Begins in July

HeyFriend, The Invesco S&P 500 Equal-Weight ETF (NYSEArca: RSP) — the chart on the right below — continues to show more strength than the weighted SPDR S&P 500 ETF (NYSEArca: SPY). This is true as we head toward the last trading day of June on Friday, shown on these one-month daily charts.

This relationship is also true as markets trade past the recent Federal Open Market Committee interest rate announcement on June 14 (the dotted arrows). Sectors have been rotating in June… Industrials (tracked by XLI) and Materials (XLB) have been gaining, while Tech (XLK), which has been the strongest horse, appears to be slowing. Be on the lookout for other sectors to take this lead, or at least play catch up. While the SPY historically takes a seasonal break in July, not all sectors will follow suit.
