Now for your Chart of the Day… The nonfarm payrolls report was released Friday morning, and it was better than expected… again. The economy added 339,000 jobs for the month of May versus a Dow Jones estimate of 190,000. This marks the 14th straight month where economists got it wrong — see the Bespoke chart below. | |
Why is that? What's even more interesting is the fact that they've been getting it wrong for longer than anytime in the past 20-plus years, based on the collected data. And here's something else I find interesting… According to Charles Schwab Chief Investment Strategist Liz Ann Sonders, 16 states have "triggered 'Sahm Rule,' which is when 3-month average of unemployment rate rises by 0.5% or more relative to its 12-month low @economics @BLS_gov." I've been saying this all month, and I'll say it again… Leadership matters. It's the theme of 2023. It matters in states, companies and even our national government. Strong companies making sound business decisions are rising in a particular sector while distracted companies in the same sector are failing. There is a huge divide. | |
