Dear Reader,
At the beginning of 2022, Larry Fink – founder of the world's largest asset management firm, BlackRock – sent his annual letter to his stakeholders.
His letters have a history of controversy...
And this year's was no different.
Fink made what could be his biggest prediction yet:
"The next 1,000 unicorns won't be search engines or social media companies, they'll be sustainable, scalable innovators – startups that help the world decarbonise..." As you can see, his letter focused on the opportunities in the climate tech revolution – much to the fury of some fossil fuel advocates...
Including West Virginia's Treasurer, Riley Moore – who went so far as to ban the state's $8 billion Board of Treasury Investments from doing business with BlackRock, in response.
Although Moore's fury is understandable, given the state's investment profile...
It's hard to discredit Fink's logic.
In 2021, the number of climate tech unicorns grew to 78...
And as the CEO of a firm with $10 trillion of investor capital under its management, it's clear he knows which way the winds of profit are blowing...
His declaration is a sure sign that the climate tech explosion is very, very real.
