The wind is "free"?   [Your regular editor Nickolai Hubble is attempting to climb one of Japan's three famous mountains with his father-in-law today.   So, over to our frequent contributor John Butler, on why he isn't holding his breath for the green revolution to play out quite as governments suggest…]   I like to sail. Many do, especially here in Great Britain: it's a large, windy island, with craggy coastline, currents, tides – just about any challenge desired by a keen sailor. The changing nature of money   Back when you first subscribed to Fortune & Freedom, we wrote to you about the nature of money. And recommended going on your own personal gold standard. That article laid out the benefits of doing so.   But what of the alternative? What about the monetary system we actually have?   Three hundred years ago, a revolution in money began to happen in the UK and France, almost simultaneously. The very meaning of money began to change. I see it as a devolution – the opposite of evolution. But let's reserve judgment for now and point out the nature of the shift. Read more here

Green Window Guidance will create a Green Bubble   Whenever governments try to direct credit into a part of the economy, it usually ends in disaster. While the obvious example is the US housing bubble, its Japan's infamous "Window Guidance" that offers the best insight.   This matters because I believe we're about to repeat all the same mistakes with the Green Bubble.   Window Guidance is the name given to the semi-official Bank of Japan (BoJ) policy whereby the central bank directed banks to make loans to certain parts of the economy. Freedom in name only   Freedom Day draws near. But you might as well call it FRINO – freedom in name only.   Nigel Farage isn't convinced that the updated measures will amount to much of an improvement. Nor that our partial restoration of basic freedoms will last for long.   But what we do know is that inflation is soaring and that the EU is doing its best to fall behind economically, as ever.
