The global battle for 5G supremacy may have entered a new phase over the last month… In a blow to China's Huawei, Vodafone UK has chosen Samsung to supply its 5G infrastructure, as Vodafone extends 5G coverage to 2,500 rural sites in Southwest England and Wales. That news came on the heels of India banishing Huawei from its 5G trials. For good measure, India also blocked the Chinese firm ZTE, while allowing Nokia, Samsung, and Ericsson to begin six-month trials for a 5G rollout. Read more here |

The silly season starts…
BRIGITTENAU, VIENNA One characteristic of summer (in Europe and North America at least) is that decision-makers like to put off decision-making. Take the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), for instance: it next meets on 5 August and then not until 23 September. Across the Channel, it's a similar story for the Governing Council of the European Central Bank (ECB): its next meetings are on 22 July and 9 September. Read more here |

Heartbreak on a Sunday night
The heartbreak of a bear market after a long bull run. Some investors will know the feeling well. The party is at its most intense just before the fall. The celebrations more jubilant, the confidence at its highest. The bull market in England football wins was so long we almost forgot what defeat felt like. We thought we could keep winning forever.
