The markets are trying to recover from their worst week of the year.

After NO BUYING PRESSURE on Thursday, we saw a pretty epic Short Squeeze on Friday.

This week will be a wild one. We'll have more tariff talk… the Fed meets Tuesday and Wednesday… and Friday, we have Quad Witching - the simultaneous expiration of stock index futures, stock index options, single-stock options, and single-stock futures… all in one day.

State of Momentum

As promised, we'll update you on the state of the markets each morning in this letter.

Today, our signal remains Red. The number of stocks in breakout conditions versus break-down conditions is highly negative. Money has been screaming out of this market for the last week, and investors are highly cautious.

That said, it doesn't mean we can't see a squeeze from these extremely bearish conditions. On Thursday, we hit oversold on the Daily Relative Strength Index and Money Flow Index for the SPDR S&P 500 ETF (SPY). In addition, there was no buying pressure - stocks in breakout conditions - that day either. We tend to see some dip-buying during these conditions as traders cover short positions.

With the Fed meeting on Tuesday and Wednesday, I speculate we'll see a small tick higher into Fed Chair Jerome Powell's statement at 2:30 PM on Wednesday.
