Dear Reader,
It used to be said, "What's good for GM is good for this country."
Not anymore.
That's because GM is not an American auto manufacturer.
Sure, they assemble cars here. However, the majority of their parts are manufactured overseas, which means they are subject to Trump's new tariffs. (Only 52% of their manufacturing takes place in the United States.)
Looking ahead to the "Liberation Day" tariffs, it's clear that Tesla Motors may be the new GM. That's because it's just one of two manufacturers that domestically produce 100% of the vehicles it sells in America.
In 2024, Tesla sold about 634,000 cars (and Cybertrucks) in the U.S. That's more than 10 times the other 100% domestic producer, EV manufacturer Rivian. Those facts suggest that even with the backlash against Tesla, it could still be a beneficiary of America's trade wars.

P.S. Our Portfolio Strategist, Andrew Packer, suggests a "buy-up-to price" of $250 for shares, about where shares traded prior to Election Day 2024, and a near-50% discount from their 52-week high of $488. That's also about where shares are at in today's trading.
Andrew notes, "Having a set 'buy-up-to price' ensures you won't overpay for shares or jump in on a stock simply because it's heading higher."
Please keep in mind that our free daily services do not come equipped with "buy" or "sell" signals. They are more suggestive, interesting ideas that make you go, "hmmm."
If you would like more comprehensive investment recommendations and a "model portfolio" for investing or speculating during the second Trump administration, that advice is reserved for paying members of the Grey Swan Investment Fraternity.
