It’s Fed Day… Again: The central bank is expected to hold rates at their current level of 4.25%-4.5%, as it did in January. We won’t know for sure until Federal Reserve chair Jerome Powell’s announcement at 2 PM EST. Expect investors to listen closely for any hints of where Powell thinks the economy is heading.
After one of the stock market’s worst weeks on record, all eyes are on the Federal Reserve’s two-day session – and you can cut the tension on Wall Street with a knife this morning. Everyone wants to see deep rate cuts from here… But with President Donald Trump’s tariffs and the ensuing stock market meltdown of the last month, the markets aren’t exactly expecting a miracle. Investors broadly expect the Fed will keep rates steady at their current level of 4.25%-4.5%. And they’re looking for any hints from Jerome Powell about how long the rate slash pause will actually last as recessionary fears and trade war-bred fear and uncertainty take center stage. I know the markets are giving us long odds right now. But while investors melt down over the latest headline news bombs, we're putting our capital to work.
