The National Mall is now closed in "core areas" and will remain that way through Joe Biden's inauguration and into next Thursday, officials say.

As authorities anticipate the possibility of more violence before next week's ceremony, members of the National Guard are now stationed at the Capitol and around D.C.

There is "a plan to ensure for the safety of our Nation's capital, city residents and monuments and memorials on the National Mall," said the superintendent of the National Mall and Memorial Parks.

There will be some demonstrations allowed. However, the participants will have had to have undergone pre-screening and they must also carry permits.
