Kobold Metals – a mineral exploration firm backed by the billionaires – acquired land in northern Quebec, Bloomberg reported. The miner is searching for cobalt, a crucial ingredient in tech such as electric cars. With the U.S. government pushing for local supplies of the metal, Kobold is using a “Google Maps for the Earth’s crust” to help look. ➤ Warren Buffett made his first investment since COVID-19 hit… … And he’s buying into natural gas. The storied investor is spending $10 billion on pipelines and storage facilities from Dominion Energy. After the deal, he’ll control 18% of all interstate gas sales across America. ➤ COVID-19 is forcing the world's largest uranium miner to cut back. The company, Kazatomprom, said it will continue to operate at minimum levels for another month, after a resurgence of the virus. It expects its yearly uranium production to fall as much as 17%. ➤ Scientists discovered a surprise bonanza… on the moon. Measurements from a NASA spacecraft showed metal-rich zones leaking out to the surface. The news comes on the heels of European researchers saying mining on the moon could start as early as 2025. ➤ A miner in Tanzania found some gems – and became a millionaire. The BBC said the man discovered the largest stones of tanzanite, one of the world’s rarest gemstones. He could use the money: He’s got four wives, 30 children, and 2,000 cows.
