They claimed that if the CLARITY Act's "yield loophole" wasn't closed, it would siphon $6.6 trillion in deposits away from community banks. Here's what they don't want you to understand. Right now, your bank pays you 0.10% to hold your money. Meanwhile, stablecoins backed by Treasury bills could pay you 3.6%. If you could move your money from your bank to an account paying 36 times more... safely and legally... would you? Of course you would. And that's exactly what terrifies them. The CLARITY Act banned stablecoin issuers like Circle from paying you interest. But there's a loophole. It didn't explicitly ban exchanges like Coinbase or Kraken from passing that yield on to you. And the banks are panicking. Think about it. $6.6 trillion sitting in their vaults, making them $200-300 billion a year in risk-free profit off of your hard-earned money.
