You've got to shake off that endless fight-or-flight feeling and not let any single trade define you. |
Sometimes, it's about accepting that the market went in a direction you didn't anticipate and moving on to the next opportunity. |
Block Out the Noise |
We live in a siloed world of social media feeds, 24/7 financial news, and algorithms that feed us exactly what we already think. |
You need to learn how to tune that out. |
Don't let a never-ending loop of headlines or a single talking head derail your game plan. |
You can read everything, sure—but don't let the constant stream of opinions get in the way of your own risk management or trade selection. |
Avoid Fighting the Market |
Trying to "show the market who's boss" or forcing your will onto it is a losing game. Only the market gets to decide if it's headed up, down, or sideways in the next hour, week, or quarter. |
The moment you double down on a wrong-headed position simply because you're angry or convinced it "must" reverse is the moment you invite disaster. |
Stay modest in your positioning size, and you won't find yourself tossing and turning all night over one trade. |
High Probability: A Blessing and a Trap |
I love high-probability strategies—so does just about everyone in the options world. But high probability can breed a touch of overconfidence. |
After your fifth or sixth winning vertical spread, it's easy to start sizing up too fast. "I can't lose," you might think. |
Until you do. Keep a level head. |
High-probability setups are great, but never forget they come with the chance of a sharper bite when they finally miss. |
Heading into 2025 |
You've already seen a full year of twists and turns in the market. Expect the new year to bring its own version of weirdness—maybe extended rallies, maybe sudden volatility bursts, or something entirely different. |
The core lessons remain the same:
• Block out the chatter.
• Keep your sizing reasonable.
• Don't let a string of wins (or losses) warp your perspective.
• And never try to bully the market. |
