| A GREY SWAN PUBLICATION | Monday April 7, 2025 | Ripple Effect — April 7, 2025 Talk about a ripple effect! U.S. stocks have yet to hit their “circuit breakers” – falling so quickly that trading is halted to avert a steeper selloff. But check out this list of countries that did. So far today: The question remains: is stock market chaos a bug or a feature of the Trump tariff strategy? We’ll see how U.S. stocks close today. After dumping another 4% lower at the open and firmly in a bear market, the S&P 500 rebounded and even jumped higher by 1% in the first hour of trading alone on rumors of a suspension of tariff implementation. As Andrew Packer notes, “This is still sloppy trading. It may not be the end of the market downside, but could be a sign that the steep selloffs are now well overdone.” With tariff news and headlines changing by the hour, it’ll still be a wild ride, which we expected as part of the MAGA trade. But the ripples are clear: Someone will blink on the trade war before it engulfs the world in a global depression. Argentina, Vietnam, Cambodia, and India are just a few countries that have come to the table with the Trump team so far. Argentina’s Javier Milei spent the weekend at Mar-a-Lago. Then there will be more than rumors and markets will settle down. Until then? Hang on, and look for great companies to buy amid this selloff. And be sure to avoid our Blacklist 50.
