In a World Full of Misinformation, You Need Good Data
By Ethan Goldman, junior analyst, Chaikin Analytics
The Internet often makes it feel like you can know just about anything. And that's true in the stock market, too.
We're awash in information. But that information, especially financial news, is often wrong...
For example, on May 28, 2023, an apparent post on social media platform X from Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez said:
Printing money is the only way out of inflation.
That statement is absurd. But in today's highly charged political environment, it might feel believable.
The post racked up millions of views. And folks screenshotted and shared it across other social media platforms.
But the post originated from a parody account. The word "parody" was even at the end of the account's name... but that part wasn't visible in some of the screenshots that spread across the Internet.
That didn't matter. Again, millions of people saw the post. Others helped with spreading it. And plenty of people believed it was true.
That's just one of many examples. The Internet is full of this kind of thing.
Put simply, people struggle to discern reality from make-believe.
So much information – both good and bad – is at our fingertips today. And combined with a big issue related to financial literacy, that means good data is more critical than ever...
Something far more consequential for your money than tariffs is unfolding behind the scenes... Tucked inside this overlooked directive is a plan that has never been attempted in U.S. history. One senior analyst says it's set to trigger a rare window for potentially explosive gains in ONE asset immediately. Wall Street insiders are already positioning themselves... and he insists you should, too, before April 30. Get the full story here.

America Has a Financial-Literacy Problem
Identifying misinformation, especially in the financial world, is critical. No one wants to lose their life savings or investment gains due to bad information.
And Americans' low financial-literacy rate creates a perfect recipe for financial disaster.
You see, the Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association of America ("TIAA") Institute conducts an annual survey of American adults called the "P-Fin Index." The questions cover eight areas related to finance.
According to the results, only about half of American adults have basic financial literacy. And the number has hovered around that level for the past eightyears.
The table below shows American adults' financial-literacy rates by age group. It's from the most recent TIAA survey results.
As you can see, folks struggle the most with "comprehending risk"...
Knowing how to make money safely is something that about two-thirds of Americans don't fully understand.
So that makes it especially important to have good data – like the Power Gauge – by your side...
How the Power Gauge's Data Helps Avoid a Big Risk
For a recent example of the power of good data, let's consider tech giant Apple (AAPL).
First, take a look at this one-year chart of the stock...
As you can see, the stock had been on an upward trend for most of 2024. But right around the new year, Apple started falling.
The Power Gauge caught on. It gave Apple a "bearish" rating before the fall picked up steam in mid-January. And as the stock has fallen lower, it has remained in mostly "bearish" territory.
Now, you don't have to understand every metric the Power Gauge measures to know that a "bearish" rating is a serious warning.
That's because the Power Gauge looks at 20 individual factors. They include everything from Financials, to Earnings, to Expert activity, and the Technicals behind a stock's price action. And the point of the ratings system is to distill all of that into an actionable grade.
The Power Gauge updates each day based on this mountain of data. That means it can see what's going on "under the hood" of a stock – often before other investors catch on.
We saw that with Apple. The Power Gauge flashed "bearish" warnings on the stock. And paying attention to the Power Gauge's warnings would have helped avoid the worst of the blowup.
Put simply, it pays to have good information on your side.
Today we're awash in all kinds of crazy news.
Some of it is real... and some of it isn't. And no matter what tool you use, you want something that's only focused on the facts to help you make decisions.
Good investing,
Ethan Goldman
