 | Sunday, March 23, 2025 | | Good Morning! On this day in 1857, Elisha Otis installed the first commercial elevator at The E.V. Haughwout and Company department store in New York City. It carried customers up and down the store's five floors at a speed of 40 feet per minute. Saloons once served as a gathering place for rowdy cowboys, but there are a handful of old-time cowboy bars across America where a thirsty would-be wrangler can still sidle up for a cold one. Police said the shooting began as an altercation between two groups of people at an "unsanctioned car show" that escalated into gunfire, sending the 200-person crowd fleeing. Here's a report with video of the scene. Two 19-year-old men and a 16-year-old boy were killed, police said. Gunshot victims ranging in age from 16 to 36 were sent to three local hospitals, as well as to University Medical Center of El Paso, the regional trauma center, according to police and hospital officials.
There were no suspects in custody yet, and police urged any potential witnesses to submit video footage of the shooting or of people with guns. | Trump Revokes Status of 532,000 Immigrants The Department of Homeland Security said Friday that it will revoke protections for 532,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans, setting them up for potential deportation in about a month. The order applies to immigrants who arrived in the U.S. since October 2022 under a Biden-era sponsorship process that allowed migrants to enter with a legal "parole" for two years. The Trump administration said the program was part of a broad abuse of humanitarian parole plagued by fraud and abuse. An internal review found that thousands of sponsors were listing fake social security numbers and using the same physical address for thousands of parole applications. DHS is urging migrants to use the newly repurposed CBP Home smartphone app to register for self-deportation or face arrest and deportation in the next 30 days. | Boxing Great George Foreman Dead at 76 George Foreman, the two-time heavyweight champion boxer who led a colorful life in the public eye, passed away on Friday. A 1968 Olympic gold medalist, he defeated Joe Frazier for the heavyweight championship in 1973 before losing the title to Muhammad Ali in the "Rumble in the Jungle" in 1974. Foreman retired in 1977 and became an ordained minister, but returned to the ring and won the heavyweight title in 1994 when he defeated Michael Moorer at age 45. Long after he hung up his boxing gloves, Foreman enjoyed success as the gregarious pitchman behind the George Foreman grill, a double sided grill that has sold more than 100 million units. Here's a look at his life in photos. Enjoy reading The Flyover?
