Introducing Buyside Hub

The New Business from The Writers of The Wall Street Rollup

Welcome back!

We're here today to talk about Buyside Hub, the platform that the team behind The Wall Street Rollup started.

We're taking on a few different things. 1) Getting you all robust wall street compensation data and insights about the culture of shops 2) A Buyside focused job board and 3) A Forum to talk Finance, that to be blunt, shares some familiarities to FinTwit.

It's time to introduce Buyside Hub.

You can access Buyside Hub on your web browser, but we also have steps at the bottom of the email on how to download the Buyside Hub App on your phone without needing to go through the App Store.

The platform is welcome to every financial professional, but is 100% free if you're on the buyside.

Let us explain:

Buyside Hub is your destination for 1) Compensation Data and Culture 2) Industry Chatter and 3) A Board full of Buyside Jobs. We've built a jobs, comp and culture, and chat board community.

At Buyside Hub we've created a comprehensive hub tailored specifically for finance professionals like you—whether you're on the job hunt, tracking industry insights, or seeking data to make informed career decisions.

1) Compensation and Culture Data:

Compensation and Culture Data: Get accurate and detailed compensation data, especially as it relates to carried interest and deferred compensation. We've historically run very detailed Wall Street Compensation Reports, and our future reports will be even stronger now that Buyside Hub is launched.

I decided to come up with this website due to experience. Look, we all know Wall Street has a Compensation and Culture problem. After the Investment Banking Analyst level, Wall Street compensation levels are relatively mystified. I've seen it firsthand while interviewing for buyside firms.

How are you supposed to know if you're getting paid fairly? What if you've never negotiated long-term compensation before and don't know if your compensation was fair? What happens if you don't know enough about the firm you're interviewing at and then find out the culture is terrible?

Most content available online stops at the Analyst and First-Year Associate level. Mid-level professionals are uncertain about what type of compensation levels they should be looking for. Especially for carried interest or deferred compensation. It's also not in vogue to ask about culture in job interviews, making it unclear how culture is prior to joining a new firm.

Most platforms are helpful for Investment Banking recruiting, but crickets for Buyside jobs!

Within the platform, you'll get culture insights from professionals who have worked at buyside shops. You'll be able to learn more about buyside funds, our users regularly submit anonymous reviews that provide insight into a funds' culture.

2) Our Forums

Buyside Users and Paid Users can access our posting board to get the answers you need from finance professionals.

We have several different boards – a Main feed and then feeds such as Private Equity, Credit, Hedge Funds, Investment Banking, Venture Capital, and Stocks.

You can create an anonymized username and add a profile picture, and then interact with other users, similar to comparable social networks.

The drivers behind wanting to make this platform comes from a variety of forces. 1) The content of X/Twitter, whatever you call it, is becoming increasingly less focused on finance and it's harder to connect with the community there. 2) Like I mentioned, other platforms feel dominated by college students and less informative after the Investment Banking and First Year Associate level.

3) Job Board and Recruiting

You'll be able to access our Job Boards to get a targeted look at finance jobs that are relevant for you.

A big driver in making this was because LinkedIn content is horrific. If I didn't need it I would delete the app. The suggested content on there is terrible. Having an alternative place to find finance jobs sounds great right?

We also plan to roll out Recruiting Services: Within our platform, we will also have targeted recruitment for firms looking to hire for targeted roles. We have massive reach across social media and email distribution platforms, and traditional recruiting is antiquated in nature, so we're happy to help buyside firms fill roles.

Getting Started on Buyside Hub

This is free for everyone on the buyside who contributes compensation and culture information every 12 months. We will need to verify your buyside seat on the backend, but that is kept 100% anonymous.

Anonymity is the number one priority for us, there are areas in the compensation and culture submission survey that 1) create separate submissions not tied to one bulk submission and 2) you can anonymize certain contributions as well if you want to. We will need to verify your submission during onboarding though, to confirm you are on the buyside.

We've been working on this initiative since July 2024, with our team hard at work to build this platform.

As of now, we are 100% bootstrapped and we think there's a compelling opportunity ahead to provide finance professionals with more significant value over time.
