Dec 24, 2024 We've Never Given a Gift Like This Before Dear Subscriber, Merry Christmas Eve! I hope you're enjoying your week of Weissgiving gifts so far. Today's gift is truly a special one. That's because we've recently made a big upgrade to our property and casualty insurance ratings. Our P&C ratings now feature data you won't find anywhere else. I'm talking about claims received from policyowners … How many were closed with or without payment … And how that compares to other insurers nationwide. Not only does Weiss Ratings obtain this data. Starting today, we now publish it. To be clear, the insurance companies themselves report these numbers to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. But this data rarely gets sent to media companies or policyholders. Nor does it arrive in an easy-to-digest format. Our team has solved both of those challenges. And today, I'm unlocking your FREE access to this valuable data. Simply navigate to our Property & Casualty Ratings page and look up your insurer's name. If you have a policy with Citizens Property Insurance Corp., for example, here's what its new summary page looks like: You'll see that Citizens ranks "Excellent" on Liquidity and "Good" on Stability. But it's "Weak" on Profitability and Claims Payout. You can click on the new "Claims Payout" tab to see why. Going back to 2018, Citizens has closed anywhere from 42.09% to 50.52% of its claims without any payment to the homeowners or farmowners who filed those claims. Again, these numbers came from official filings. Having this knowledge before you buy (or renew) a policy could save you money — not to mention, a big headache — if you need to file a claim. Note that the index in the chart is combined from all lines of business. Citizens only has Homeowners & Farmowners. Other companies might have different tables. Your own insurer's tables might contain all zeros. That's how it was filed by the company. So, that's what we'll display. We aren't editorializing. This is just a datapoint … and an important one, especially if you need to file a claim. As soon as insurers file their 2024 claims data, we'll incorporate it. However, this gift may have expired by then. To help our community maintain its financial health and safety, our ratings have been free to anyone who wanted them, no strings attached, since 2020. In 2025, we plan to offer our ratings data as a premium service again. So, I hope you and your family take advantage of this gift NOW … before the New Year's crystal ball drops on Times Square. It would make my holiday bright to know that you and your family find the coverage that best covers you. Happy Holidays, Dallas Brown Publisher P.S.
