A significant Federal Reserve Bank of New York study released on Tuesday found that Americans are preparing for the likelihood that high inflation will continue over the next years. According to the New York Federal Reserve's Survey of Consumer Expectations, the median expectation is that inflation would increase 3.7% over the next year, down from a peak of 7.1% in June 2022. That represents a small improvement over the 3.6% observed the previous month. Consumers also believe that inflation will continue to be high in the years to come. Americans anticipate an increase in food prices during the upcoming year. However, they anticipated that in the coming year, the cost of basics like gas, medical care, and rent would continue to decline.

According to a new investigation, the two surviving housemates in a University of Idaho off-campus rental property in Moscow, Idaho, were awake and texting one another during a shooting that claimed the lives of four of their friends last November. On November 13, 2022, at 4 a.m., a home invasion attack killed Kaylee Goncalves, Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, and Ethan Chapin. They had all spent the previous Friday night out with friends before the Thanksgiving holiday. According to court documents unveiled in January, at least one of the surviving roommates saw something suspicious five months before a grand jury indictment stripped Kohberger's defense of a chance to fight the probable cause used to justify his arrest at a preliminary hearing. The court has issued a restrictive gag order on the case. |

AND THIS WEEK'S #1 STORY IS... |
Hundreds of Israelis were killed in the massive surprise onslaught by Gaza militants on Israel on Saturday, which sparked a deadly barrage of Israeli airstrikes in retaliation and a formal declaration of war on Sunday. "Citizens of Israel, we are at war - not in operation, not in rounds - at war," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said in a video message shortly after the militant organization Hamas, which governs the coastal enclave of Gaza, launched a barrage of rockets and sent gunmen into Israel in a multifaceted and unprecedented attack in the protracted conflict. More than 1,000 people have perished so far, including more than 700 Israelis murdered by Hamas' attack and more than 400 Palestinians killed by Israel's barrage of bombs on Gaza. The whereabouts of at least 100 hostages, including Israeli troops, whom Hamas claims it has taken hostage, are still unclear. Here's what we know so far. |
