Happy Halloween!
I’m excited to get out there trick-or-treating with my kids.
I grew up in a neighborhood on the wrong side of Union Turnpike - the poor side.
Across the street was Jamaica Estates where our president grew up.
We used to go there to trick-or-treat - to the rich people’s area.
That was really fun, and now I live in a neighborhood where people come to trick-or-treat.
Isn’t that the greatest thing about the American dream?
You could start out with very little, and do your thing and really flip the script.
Speaking of our president, today I’d like to circle back to China.
We saw President Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping come up with a truce.
It’s a one-year trade truce.
And make no mistake about it, a financial war happened leading up to this meeting.
They were talking about it like there was going to be some big, beautiful breakthrough, but we still see both sides trying to gain the high ground.
It’s interesting - Biden locked down semiconductors with restrictions on China.
China really wants Nvidia chips - they want advanced Blackwell chips, specifically.
The Biden administration blocked China from getting the H20, Nvidia’s most-advanced chips at the time, and now Blackwell chips are also blocked.
China’s response was to block us from getting rare earths - applying their leverage.
So what we do know about this deal so far is that China is going to pause rare earth export controls…
The U.S. is going to trim tariffs on China in exchange for China cracking down on fentanyl.
President Trump was right that the only way you’re going to incentivize them to crack down on blackmarket fentanyl - the precursor chemicals - is literally by putting enough pressure on them, leverage on them, to make sure it’s too painful NOT to do that.
President Trump was 100% right about that. I couldn’t agree more.
They’re also going to stop tariffs on each other’s ships, which impacts China a lot more.
President Trump said it was an amazing meeting.
On a scale of 0 to 10, Trump said the meeting was a 12.
Usually when our president uses hyperbole a lot, and that’s great - in a world like this you need to get attention - however, they didn’t get a big settlement, and they didn’t do a joint press conference afterwards.
But they’ll let rare earths flow to us, and the U.S. will let some of Nvidia’s chips flow to them.
And this is a critical moment in time…
Right now, as we’re building AI, we have these chips that will determine the future of which country really is in control, is the dominant power of the 21st century.
And this is really important.
Do you want your kids living in a world controlled by China and its proxies?
No.
“Woke child mob” times 500 in what you can and cannot say.
Unacceptable.
So it’s really interesting that Nvidia is such a big bargaining chip, and we saw Nvidia’s market cap just cross $5 trillion.
So these chips are where it’s at!
Of particular note is Nvidia’s secret partner - the literal AI “brains” behind every advanced Nvidia chip…
Now, this company is marching higher, too - no denying that.
They just signed a deal with Broadcom for their new AI chips, as well.
It’s a very exciting time to be alive - we have this great power competition, and Nvidia right at the center of it.
And their secret supplier, the power behind the Nvidia throne (and Apple, Amazon, Qualcomm, Google, to name a few)...
That almost no one knows about…
That is 25X smaller than Nvidia…
