Here's a breakdown of the key benefits: | | 1. No Margin Risk | You trade only with the cash available in your account.
You don't borrow funds from the broker, so there's no margin interest and no risk of margin calls.
Great for conservative traders or those who want tighter capital control.
| | 2. Lower Risk of Overleveraging | Since you're limited to your cash balance, you're less likely to overtrade or take on positions that are too large.
Helps develop disciplined position sizing and capital preservation.
| | 3. Ideal for Certain Options Strategies | | | 4. Easier Approval Process | | | 5. Better for Small Accounts | No need to meet the $2,000 minimum required for a margin account.
Traders with smaller portfolios can still participate in option trading using strategies like long calls/puts or cash-secured puts.
| | 6. No Pattern Day Trader (PDT) Rule (For Options) | The PDT rule still applies to margin accounts if you execute 4+ day trades in 5 business days with less than $25,000.
With cash accounts, you can avoid the PDT rule—but you're limited by settled funds (T+1 for options), so you must wait for funds to settle before reusing them.
