Which leads us to a question we'd love to get your feedback on: "Have you ever invested in bonds?" Seems like a silly question right? Well have you then? When was the last time you went to your broker and bought bonds? Does anyone you know invest in bonds? Or is it more that you've got "bonds" but through a fund? Or perhaps you don't think you're invested in bonds, but you actually are thanks to how the funds you are invested in operate? There are lots of questions today and that's because we're turning the spotlight back on you to a certain degree. There's a lot to absorb. For many, the simplicity of a fund or exchange-traded fund (ETF) is much easier to know and manage. That's fine, but you must ask: how much do you really know about your fund? Where does it really invest? What does it actually invest in? Is it carrying more debt than meets the eye? Is it involved with structured and complex products that bring hidden challenges? Funds management can be a murky world at times and transparency hasn't exactly been a top feature. That means you must ask the questions and take a look at how you are really invested. Of course, there are some great funds and some great operators. Ultimately, though, when it comes to your financial situation and your investments there is only one person who really knows what's best for you… You.
