As reported by CNBC, officials will review key U.S. supply chains for rare earths under an incoming executive order. The big concern is supply from “nations that are or are likely to become unfriendly or unstable.” This largely refers to China. ➤ Bentley partnered on a rare earth metals project. The luxury carmaker joined academic researchers to develop sustainable metal supply for electric and hybrid vehicles. The partnership will investigate new technologies for recycling rare earths from waste electronics. ➤ America became the best place in the world for mining. Nevada was ranked No. 1 globally in investment attractiveness for new mineral projects, according to the Fraser Institute annual survey. The state dethroned last year’s top mining destination, Western Australia. Arizona and Alaska are also ranked in the top five. ➤ Minnesota could be the next source of nickel. The state’s supreme court ruled in favor of permits for the PolyMet nickel-copper mine. A lower court had previously ordered more studies on the project. PolyMet would be Minnesota’s first mine for the key electric vehicle metals. ➤ America's biggest copper miner bet on a huge expansion. Freeport-McMoRan’s CEO said the company is set to approve production increases across its Arizona mines.
