Within that demographic, Cuban American voters will play a unique role in deciding the next president. For years, younger Cubans supported the Democratic party, while their elders tended to vote Republican. That generational gap, however, is starting to fade. Recent polling shows that young Cuban American voters are shifting away from the Democratic Party as it moves toward the far left. Why? It has everything to do with socialism. While many Cuban immigrants have grown up under our democratic republic, they still remember hearing their parents' and grandparents' horror stories growing up under socialism in Cuba. Because of that, such a dramatic shift toward socialist policies is unacceptable for many Cuban Americans. If the shift holds until election day, Trump could score a significant victory in Florida.
