You will die, too.” Dear Reader,   5G has stirred up much more controversy than any other topic since I joined Southbank Investment Research.   As soon as I or any other analysts even mention the topic, we’re guaranteed email replies.   Some are critical, mostly urging caution but in a rational, intelligent manner.   What a lot of people don’t seem to have realised is that the furious reaction 5G is generating is in itself a sign that the technology is almost certain to change the world.   Why?   Because the true disruptors… the real world-altering technologies have always been met with uproar.   Did you know that the three days after the first successful test of the underwater telegraph cable that links Europe and the US, an article in the New York Times called telegraph technology “too fast for the truth”.   A few years later, the same paper said telegraphs would “mourn for the good old times when mails came by steamer twice a month”.   And that when electricity was first invented, many believed it could cause “neurasthenia” – a condition that caused rapid aging!   In fact, you can go back to Plato in 370 BCE, and his views on writing things down, which he felt would “create forgetfulness in the learners’ souls, because they will not use their memories”.   I should state for the record that, actually, I understand people’s scepticism. How positive a contribution technology makes to our society remains debatable.   I’m not here to offer any moral viewpoint; that’s very much up to you.   However, from a financial viewpoint?   You could get a head start on potentially one of the biggest technological windfalls ever seen.   And if you feel furious at the mere idea of 5G?   That could be just another sign that it’s about to change the world.   Click here to find out what I mean.   All the best,   Kit Winder  Editor, Southbank Investment Research
