Rational enquiry to promises of death

Nick O'Connor | 3 July 2020 Controver$y Dear Reader,   5G continues to provoke a reaction unlike anything I’ve seen in my more than a decade in financial publishing.   We get constant messages from subscribers, ranging from reasonable, rational enquiry to promises of death.   But thinking purely as an investor – which is why we’re here, after all – that, to me, is a good sign.   Why?   Because, over the past twenty years or so, I can’t think of a major “wealth builder” trend that didn’t generate some serious rage.   Shale gas and fracking…   Crypto currencies…   Wind and Solar energy...   Even the internet itself, with CNN once claiming "email hurts IQ more than pot".   All of these breakthroughs have sent certain people into a white hot fury, ranging from internet abuse to genuine protests…   And all of them have then gone on to produce some remarkable stock returns. Past performance and forecasts are not a reliable indicator of future results.   I wonder how long it’ll be until financial organisations are require to put “past fury is no indication of future results”…   Jokes aside, I hope you understand what I’m saying.   Whatever your views are of 5G, to deny it’s incredibly lucrative potential is to deny yourself the chance to jump on board, and – assuming you make the right decisions – to profit hugely as a result.   It’s your choice, of course.   But, to me, the evidence speaks for itself.   Best,   Nick O’Connor Publisher, Southbank Investment Research
